Getting started with Elephas - Knowledge Assistant
Setting up Elephas

Elephas is an AI assistant designed specifically for Mac — private, powerful, and always at your fingertips.
Here are the steps you need to follow -
1. Visit https://elephas.app and subscribe (if not done already). You will now have to access the DMG file and the license key through an email with the subject “You've subscribed to Elephas - Your AI-Powered Knowledge Assistant!”.
You can also download the latest file from our website Elephas installer
2. Install Elephas using the DMG file. Double-click the downloaded DMG file and place it into the Applications
folder as shown below.

- Launch the app
Then launch the app using the launch pad (Cmd + space),

4. Enable Accessibility
permission for Elephas.

5. Then click the Settings icon from the left sidebar to open the Elephas Preferences.

You can also press ⌘ + , (Command + Comma) — the standard Mac shortcut for quickly opening app preferences.
Privacy & Offline Use
Elephas is built with privacy by design.
- Run Elephas fully offline with its built-in models.
- Perfect if you want 100% private processing (no cloud calls).
Then navigate to the AI Providers tab and fill in the OpenAI and Gumroad keys.


Make sure you have the license entered -

Once you fill it, close the window. Now when you click the Elephas icon
, you should see,

AI engines
You don’t need to get third party AI accounts to use Elephas. You can use all plans without your OpenAI keys up to fair usage limits.
But if you need more, and want to go beyond the limits of your plans, you can do that by configuring popular AI providers, such as, OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, Llama 3, and so on.

After the onboarding windows, you should see a status menu like this,

Note: If you don't see the icon, you may already have too many icons there. Try to close some, and then it will appear.
